History of the file:
The file is believed to be founded by a player, Canis, after Set 7 released for a month. At that time, Canis is a new player, but he uses the complete Urgrant file though. Principle of playing an effective Urgrant file
The principle of urgrant file is to use Urgrant to generate lawita sphere in a cheaper cost, at the same time, limit the opponent SP to lower the threats that opponent can use, this includes the SP sink from urgrant skill and revive SP for opponent’s dead unit. Besides, using lawita and falkow grims to remove opponent field presence so that urgrant and other units can use the high AGI and high damage output advantages to destroy the opponent.
Mage Knight Fencer - Urgrant
This is the name for the whole file, without this, the file is just unable to be competitive. In order to use the true power of Urgrant, the action skill - rapier of midnight, you need 6lv in lawita first. Otherwise, it is just a normal lv 4 unit. You have auto-skill - Spell: Cutting Darkness to accelerate, while the action skill slower the progress of your opponent. Besides, the AGI 4 and 70-85 damage output usually force a revive or LP loss for your opponent. 1sp is half of the resource of a turn. Therefore, Urgrant is also known as an unit that only use the same action skill button - which many claimed that this is a no-brainer.
Beast Solider - Belus
Not a must-have, but a very powerful additional to the file. Belus is one of the best 1on1 unit in the whole game, it engages any random lv 4 or below enemy. This start skill is not very efficient if opponent has many units on the field. But, with the aid of falkow grims, cyclone, return and sweeping tidalwave, the less-threaten enemy will be removed from the field to let the skill hit another threat. Together with urgrant high damage output, it nearly means opponent do not get a chance to attack at all.
On the other hand, Belus itself actually host urgrant in the mirror match. Who plays a belus successfully first, who wins in the mirror match is a usual case.
Besides, the 70HP is also a high enough HP value which can absorb damage from certain popular SS so that belus can use its start skill for the turn.
New Magic Doll - Astaforse
Not a must-have. Astaforse itself is actually not a powerful unit since she needs about at least lawita 6 in order to make it a threat. Moreover, Urgrant will make the lawita sphere to 9 no matter whats, therefore, the power of Astaforse is maximized here. She actually is not a star here but she is a good support attackers for the 1st turn is appeared. 40-45dmg is not really high compared to urgrant and it is even lowers than belus' 50dmg. However, she AT increases every turn permanently and therefore she is good against big unit with a lot of HP and a powerful counter-skill that you don't want urgrant and belus to get hit, examples are Star Dragon, 3rd emperor etc.
Usually, new urgrant fileuser will forget the usage of the action skill - Buster System which actually a good skill when against low agi, high HP, high AT opponent. This skill also let her to accumulate AT to one-shot enemy unit later. The over 100 HP usually will cause trouble for certain file, like Zu, Serpent and the like.
Mermaid Wizardess - Faytis
Since you want urgrant to hit the field early and safely, this is the unit that do 2 things at the same time. Since you nearly don't have a lv 1 or lv 2 unit in the file, maybe a Catherina or owl sage, but after they died, this will only return enemy unit. At the same time, this is a unit with agi 4, RNG 3, AT 30 and HP 40 unit which can helps to share and lower the damage received by urgrant. This is also the ideal card for opening 1st SS(if Cath was tidalwaved) or 2ndSS. When the opening skill hit an enemy, it is 1-2 sp advantage for you. The action skill is usually ignored since no other mermaid is used and the damage is too low and it means you lose 4sp early!!... never use it if you are not on a big sp advantage and lack of LP.
Witch Queen - Catherina
Not a must-have now due to the set 9 stronghold interfere, it is the only card that give you acceleration 100% (except when facing stronghold or shade). 2nd Turn Meaning of Failure is very good start. If you manage to have her alived and urgrant comes into play, you can add +10DF to urgrant so that he can last longer. It is a cards that is good to die quickly, not so bad if it alives but too bad if she gets tidalwaved or send to cemetery directly.
One of the best sp-gen unit in the whole game as a Lv 1. Since the file consists of many high lv unit or grims. More SP is necessary. Otherwise, you will always find yourself lacking of SP.
A must have for 1 copy. This card means GG for certain file, namely, EN, lv 2 rush, Royalty Rush. Due to urgrant, you already use falkow 4, so why not add 1 copy to file for the advantage. This card is also the only removal cards in the whole game which can remove more than one unit from the field (Deathmaker is similar). If you able to effectively use it, it fulfills the principle of urgrant file.
Nearly every file have unit that are lv 3 or below, so why not? You can also see it as a SP sink grim since opponent will need another 3 SP to re-play the unit. Together with urgrant, you limit the opponent's resources even more. At the same time, you get more and more field control.
Wrath of Sea Lord
Not a must have. There are many troublesome Lv 4 unit that can ruins the whole urgrant file, Chase Wing, Afel, Jack, Alna, Serpent and the like. It is also good in mirror match.
One of the best removal grim in the game. Removal a threat of any lv from the field and kill another, which usually means this turn is usually a field wipe of opponent. This is used to remove at least lv 4 unit, otherwise, your SP will lose in behind. This card is usually the killer card of the file since opponent will suddenly lose time to recycle their SP and give you time to izcer their last few LP.
One of the best removal grim. While deathmaker will backfire yourself, this will not and 1 sp cheaper. It also don't affect the lawita lv.
Elite Fencer of Regus
An unit that ensured unit on your side go first except facing undine or slyph or some random grims. It also by-pass the pixy lock. In mirror match, she hosts back urgrant and Astaforse. Though, the front row of urgrant file is already full.
Meaning of Failure & Soul Pact
You need more SP badly. Otherwise, you will lose badly..XD
Zombie Lord - Zugateroza
The last LP keeper of the file. Since urgrant limits opponent resources, this left Zug. a lot safer to use. Besides, the urgrant file usually have a lot SP for the close skill for Zug. It even defeat bringer and Forest Hero if the SP is enough. But now, a lv 1 card can kill it, no matter how many SP you have..
Some other less used Card Choice
Lady Paladin – Mirelia
A high AT unit if grim count is enough. Moreover, since urgrant file needs to use grims many time, when she hits play, she usually have enough AT, which usually astaforse cannot do, to kill opponent unit. The attack also don’t require to spend any SP. If you use the skill, it sometimes get you back a useful one and you will even be happier later. In my opinion, she acts well as 4-6th backup urgrant. With mirelia and urgrant in play, bringer is usually dead unless they have more tank…
Mage Knight of Regus
Providing +2 agi to urgrant, owl sage, mirelia and elite fencer which let you to be faster than though agi 5 unit. But another important thing is the grim bane skill, when you grim bane all opponent grim, urgrant, belus and astaforse will usually do their jobs well with no problem except SS. The 50HP also makes more effeort to kill it.
Sumer & Fenalla
Grim bane for free and you can even bane 2 grims in 1 turns and return an astaforse back and buff the one alive at agi 4. In urgrant file, she is only 2sp investment and the 30HP makes her less vulnerable to ball of flame and dragon breath, though I find she is usually the victim of bringer open skill. She is also a ranged attacker which helps to kill of the annoying salamanders in the back.
Proxy of Soul – Animus
Give you access to gowen 3, which open the choice of Lost doll Erisa which further buff astaforse, final shotdown and rapid growth, the best SP-generation grim in the game. Due to urgrant auto-skill, it usually will have 90AT if everything go right. However, with only agi 3 and 50HP and Lv 3, it is subject to too many things…return, any agi 4 unit, frog, blade wyvern… haven’t tried how it preformed since it can share some damage that urgrant will take.
Lost doll – Erisa
With the aid of proxy of soul, she is usually a agi 4, AT 120 unit on the first row. One of the best thing is, her open skill buff astaforse so that astaforse will get agi 5 and can use the buster system action skill immediately usually. Though, another problem is, the first row of urgrant file is already very crowned…
Ocean King – Vondora
The new addition of urgrant file arsenal. Lv 5 means it is immune to belus, and with 70HP, it can solve the problem of dalos. Since urgrant file already hit a grim count of 8-10 depending on your built. After using the 2sp action skill 1 to 2 times, it can become a super bog wyvern-like unit with 1SP and sit at the back. Remember he gets RNG 4 so that he can hit any unit on the opponents side with at least 120dmg twice. Combo with mirelia for more damages. Though, tradional urgrant file seldom use falkow 5 and that means a lot more investment here.
Used to dodge SS that affect disengage unit, it also makes SP recycle from closed unit possible. It also provides times for Faytis, owl sage and Sumer & Fenalla to perform their jobs.
A cheaper way to dodge SS that affect disengage unit. It also affect 1 turn only so that our unit can hit next turn immediately instead of letting opponent build up field presence for 2 turns.
Magic Doll – Exorcist
Used to battle Undead and the SP sink effect drains opponents SP even more. Though, The agi 3 and HP 40 status does not easily to have a successful attack after the movement of Urgrant and Astaforse. Mostly, the SP sink is used in early game against shade, Emerald Carbuncle and the like.
If used, it usually replace astaforse. With agi 5, it usually moves first. 40HP and Lv 4 also let it to keep on the field against the spirit and grims. Another point is that, the action skill can pinpoint and kill any enemy unit which astaforse cannot do, especially the target is in the back. Also, if necessary, it can put on the2nd to 3rd row to be protected by belus or urgrant.
Similar case to moonlight assassin but much more fragile… the skill also needs 4sp to use but it is a field wipe. Perform bad against gowen due to Jack, salamander, dragon breath, ball of flame, against other sphere is very good.
An unit with open skill to kill problematic unit with low HP, salamander, owl sage, succubus. It also has RNG so that it can be put on 2nd row.
Another choice for grim bane and this one is the one that have the greatest attack power and an defensive open skill. Though, it has only 20HP which is very bad in gowen matchup. The agi 3 also means it may not be able to act first to attack and grimbane which fails to commit the major purpose of using this card.
A card that is very tricky... It can dodge assassin SS, but for only 1 unit and you need to ensure it is, otherwise, it helps your enemy much more. It can also using aggressively to engage the enemy threat like Dalos, Afel, Rasam and the like, though, for 1 turn only.
SS Arrangement Principal
Mainly, there are 2 lines of effect used. The LP of urgrant file is also between 9 to 11 while 10 is the most usual number.
1st SS: Either Magic doll – support (Lawita +3) or 40 damage, sp+1 effect or even sp+2
A successful urgrant file needs at least 3sp to operate well. However, urgrant auto-skill will drain 1sp for 2 lawita sphere, that means 1sp is left only. If it is forced to revive last turn, it means a drop of SP instead. Therefore, it needs to have more SP or make the lawita to 9 to stop the SP sink. The lawita +3 also has a effect to make urgrant skill to be usable once it opened if you put 1sp into lawita sphere.
2nd SS: This slot varied a lot. Someone used another sp gain effect, some used sergis to battle undead and Lycanthrope, EX: Wizard Archer of Regus is also a choice. Some specialized version will use LP 3 SS here. Another one is the Lv 3 unit removal SS since certain Lv 3 unit will make problem to urgrant file.
3rd SS: Usually a LP 2 SS, most use 50dmg (Zug. Or Lap.), Mizette, Solar Prince, Skeleton Warrior, Mad priest. If it is LP 1, it maybe Vonderam.
4th SS: Same as 3rd SS but it is usually more defensive oriented, including using Renally and the Solar Eclipise.
5th SS: Mostly are LP 3, Lelein, Death Dragon is a usual choice.
Weakness of Urgrant file
1. Agi 5 Lv 4 or above unit
Since the file usually not using any agi-buff cards, Agi 5 means it can move first, if it is lv 4 or above, the returns are not usable and if it is lv 5 or above, belus also cannot engage. Therefore, urgrant file will take damage. Besides, the unit counts of the file is quite low, this will hurt the file a lot.
Ex: Afel, Dalos, Rasam, Sylph or Undine aided unit, Knight of Zero Shrine, Elite Fencer of Regus (the agi-debuff make her move first), Lebau, Awakened Erisa
2. Lack of RNG
Most unit used is RNG 1 which means this file has difficulties to hit support unit at the back. Usually, the file will use grim to remove them or tank first. But, if the grims are used up, this is a big weakness.
Ex: Solar Princess, Jack, Knight of Zero Shrine, Ex: Wizard archer of Regus, Igina
3. SP or sphere drains
Since it is a mid-big file, it needs more SP and higher sphere to operate fully. Therefore, this will slower the deck a lot.
Ex: Shade, Death Embrance, Zu, Night Wing Wyvern, Shield Coat SS
4. Removal effect and SS
Same weakness as being a mid-big file.
Ex: Deathmaker, Assassin SS, RFA SS, Wrath of Sea Lord, Disjunction
5. Damage type start/open/close/counter skill on un-removable unit
Urgrant file cannot absorb many damage at all, all is the file is using grim and kill-first method to avoid damage. Therefore, un-preventable dmg hit it a lot.
Ex: Crest Devil Knight, Zu, Alliend, Star Dragon, Jack, 3rd Emperor
6. Miracle Fruit or higher than Lv 4
Since fruited unit cannot be returned after it is closed, it causes a serious trouble for urgrant player.
Ex: Any fruited or Lv buffed Undead, Alurane, Mercenary, Angelic Knight, Violetx2
7. Grim Dependent
Drop the grims before the usage, and urgrant player will usually lose the field presence.
Ex: Ref. Citizen, Mage Knight of Regus, Talisman Mystic, Lost tome
8. Character Dependent
Nearly the full file is character.
Ex: Chase Wing, Rosa
You can't play any cards at all.
Ex: Pixy, punishment hole, miracle bind
